Big Talks with Little Tykes: Talking about Social Class with Young Children
Together with my colleagues at the CUESI Lab at UCLA, I have developed a parenting workshop for the Park Slope Childcare Collective in Brooklyn, NY. The collective’s chairs on diversity, equity, and inclusion recruited our team to present on site, as a part of their effort to help parents talk about important and sensitive topics with their children aged 2-5. No extant trainings on the topic were available, and thus our team has developed a first-of-its-kind workshop to help teach parents how to discuss issues of wealth, poverty, and economic inequality with their young children.

Shame, Stereotypes, and Stigma: Barriers for clients contending with poverty
This Professional Development was a result of the collaborative research done in the Beyond Bridges research project. The project was collaboration with a local community partner, Angela Zhang, examining the role of stigma and shame in benefits receipts amongst individuals and families living in rural poverty. The two hour professional development is based on our findings and an extensive literature review aimed at reducing stigma and shame for volunteers and practitioners working with people experiencing economic hardship.
